I had the pleasure of being a guest on the Cocktails, Code and Conversations podcast hosted by David Lee last week. We discussed how establishing an identity and access management (IAM) program can help you bring more revenue into the business. If you’re wondering how IAM can help you achieve this, then read on!My discussion with David starts with the primary focus of deploying an IAM program –to manage risk. However, we quickly pivoted from the risk conversation to the notion of driving revenue through a well-planned and strategic IAM program. That’s right – what has traditionally been viewed as a money pit (security), may now contribute to your TOP LINE! How? The answer is simple – by building identity and access management processes that are repeatable and reduce bottlenecks, you allow people to access what they need, when they need it. As an example, think of developers. In most modern organizations, developers enable the business by building relevant/customer-driven applications. The faster you can build new applications that your customers can use to buy from you, the more quickly you generate new revenue. And the faster you can “beat” your competition in acquiring a new customer. While revenue gains are the first benefit we see, it isn’t the only business area that can go faster. IAM affects all parts of the organization that are driven by access to information, including suppliers and partners.
The devil is in the details, but there are three main drivers to these new-found efficiencies.
